Common questions

What RAW formats does RawCull support?

RawCull supports ARW, CR2, CR3, NEF, NRW, RAF, ORF, RW2, DNG, PEF, X3F, ERF, MRW, 3FR, MEF, SR2, and more. Full RAW decoding requires dcraw (free, via Homebrew: brew install dcraw). JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, and TIFF work natively without any extra setup.

Does it work on Windows or Linux?

RawCull is macOS-only, supporting macOS 12 Monterey and later on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Windows and Linux support is not currently planned.

How do I get a license?

Support the project on Buy Me a Coffee (buymeacoffee.com/kamrul) — any amount helps. Once you've supported, visit rawcull.com/claim and enter your email to instantly receive your lifetime license key.

How does the 7-day free trial work?

Download and install RawCull — it starts a 7-day trial immediately with full access to every feature. No account or credit card required. When the trial ends, culling still works but exporting results and the histogram/EXIF sidebar require a license.

What does "1 device" mean?

Your license activates on one Mac at a time. If you get a new Mac or replace your logic board, email support@rawcull.com and we'll reset the activation so you can move it. Deactivation is also available in Settings → License.

Does RawCull need an internet connection?

No. All decoding, culling, and exporting works offline. The app checks the license server once at startup to validate your activation, but will fall back to offline mode if the server is unreachable.

What is the companion app?

RawCull ships with a tiny background helper process ("rawcull-companion") that does the heavy work of decoding RAW files using dcraw. It starts automatically when RawCull opens and stops when you quit. You never need to interact with it directly.

Can I move my license to a new Mac?

Yes. Open Settings → License → Deactivate this device on your old Mac, then activate on the new one. If you no longer have access to the old Mac, email support@rawcull.com and we'll reset it for you.
